TOTTENHAM JOIN LIVERPOOL IN RACE TO SIGN INTER MILAN STAR

According to various reports emerging from both the English and Italian media, Liverpool are seriously interested in the signing of Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella. The impressive young midfielder has been a gem for Inter Milan since last season and has captured both the hearts of fans and the eyes of several clubs across Europe, including Liverpool.

The 23-year-old is contracted to the Italian Serie A giants but will see it run out at the end of 2024 should he not put pen to paper on a fresh contract. The player is still doing his best and has continued the business of impressing his manager Antonio Conte with a string of impressive performances so far this season, but Conte is not the only manager he has been impressing.

Barella joined Inter Milan on a permanent basis just last year after initially spending the previous season on loan at the club. Liverpool are expected to make player acquisitions this summer after different injuries have hampered the season of some of their star players, including defensive maestro Virgil van Dijk.

Also, with Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum both now 30+, the Reds will be looking to bring in players that will be seen as long-term replacements to their aging players. Wijnaldum in particular is expected to leave Anfield and complete a switch to Camp Nou, to join Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer.

Evidently, should Barella be brought in as a replacement to the departing Wijnaldum, it would be a smart move by the club given that the said replacement has proven himself to be a more thrilling and exciting player to watch. The Inter midfielder has scored two goals this season and registered five assists, bettering Wijnaldum’s record at Anfield.

Liverpool fans will be excited at the prospect of Barella joining the club and some of them have even gone on social media to persuade the Reds to seal the deal as quickly as possible. Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the player but they look like a less likely destination for him.
